Helena's MasterCom Story

Hi, I'm Helena

“Sometimes the hardest conversations we have are with ourselves. I didn’t want to struggle so much in those conversations anymore.”

I know, I get it, I have a lot going for me. There are the things I’ve done and there are the things I haven’t, but have the potential. And it’s all really good. Really good.

“Sometimes the hardest conversations we have are with ourselves. I didn’t want to struggle so much in those conversations anymore.”

I know, I get it, I have a lot going for me. There are the things I’ve done and there are the things I haven’t, but have the potential. And it’s all really good. Really good.

But I don't always feel that way.

I love the conversations I have with other people — to listen and to be helpful and supportive as a friend, a colleague, a confidant.

But when it comes to carving that time out for myself, for having those supportive, helpful conversations with myself… that’s where I’ve struggled.

My MasterCom journey, therefore, always wasn’t so easy, but…

one of the biggest things I appreciated about my experience was the space to fully articulate what I was thinking and feeling.

And I didn’t have to do it alone. I knew exactly who was on the other side of those emails. Also, even though they were technically letters to someone else, they were, even moreso, letters to myself.

They helped me develop the ability to have more of those conversations with myself,

to develop confidence and the belief that I could continue to have these conversations regularly, on my own. And I got in the practice of being kinder to myself.

The Bounce Conversations were great for that too. For realizing that I was making assumptions in some cases, that were not true.

It's funny, communication, we often think about it as this thing we do with other people.

And, I think of myself as quite a good communicator with others.

It was not always easy to face myself for each day of MasterCom. And while I felt the progress over the course of the month, I knew I needed a little something extra. We devised a plan, a system to keep me accountable to myself.

Today, the system is still not perfect, but I’ve seen the progress, I feel the progress, and I’m leaps and bounds beyond where I was 6 months ago.

These Things Made Helena's MasterCom Experience

Time for Myself

I'm great at making time for other people, but not for myself. MasterCom helped me to practice taking regular time for myself during the program AND how I would make time for myself in the future, as well.

Different Perspective

I shared A LOT through this program. By fully articulating to myself (and someone else), plus a number of great questions, I was able to see quite a few things from a different perspective, which was so helpful.

Not Judgmental

Throughout the program it was nice to feel I could say anything and not feel judged in any way, whatsoever. This open-mindedness allowed me to gain confidence and perspective for future conversations with myself.
